The Cherokee Historical & Preservation Society (CHAPS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit which owns and operates the Cherokee County Museum, Possum Trot Schoolhouse, Vinson-Blanton Burying Ground, and Fort Thicketty.
CHAPS memberships are available annually or for a lifetime - consider purchasing one for yourself or as a gift.

Named for the couple who outwitted the British during the Revolutionary War and one of the earliest families of settlers in what would become Cherokee County. One of Cherokee County’s founding fathers, Dr. W.C. Hamrick served on the County Formation Committee, recommended the county’s name, and established a textile empire.
