Displays and interactive tools about Native Americans, The War for Independence, Fort Thicketty, Geology and Mining

The Last Castle

Standing as both a powerful work of art and a piece of cinematic history, the mural by Bill Briggs holds a unique place within the Cherokee County Museum’s collection. Originally featured in the film The Last Castle, starring Robert Redford, the mural embodies themes of resilience, unity, and the enduring strength of the human spirit—messages that resonate far beyond the screen. Briggs’ masterful composition and attention to symbolic detail invite viewers to reflect on leadership, sacrifice, and the pursuit of dignity in the face of adversity. Generously donated to the Cherokee County Museum, this remarkable piece now serves as a bridge between art, storytelling, and community heritage, offering visitors an opportunity to experience a work that is both culturally significant and deeply inspiring.
